TearCare: Understanding Dry Eye and Its Causes

TearCare is an in-office treatment designed to help clear blocked oil glands in the eyelids.

The treatment begins with approximately 15 minutes of gentle, controlled heat applied to the eyelids. This heat helps soften the thickened oils inside the meibomian glands.

After the heating portion is complete, the doctor performs a gland expression to help remove blocked oil and encourage healthier oil flow. This process helps support a more stable tear film and can improve comfort for patients with evaporative dry eye.

TearCare is often combined with other dry eye treatments, depending on your specific diagnosis and treatment plan. It may also be covered by some medical insurance plans.
